What are some of the most pervasive cultural barriers to the recruitment, retention, and advancement of technical women and what do executives think needs to change to create inclusive technical cultures? In conjunction with the 2009 Grace Hopper Celebration, 59 technical executives from leading technology companies who are committed to diversity held a discussion and proposed solutions to creating cultures that leverage diversity for greater innovation.

Launched in September 2004, the UKRC is funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) and is the Government’s lead organisation for the provision of advice, services and policy consultation regarding the under-representation of women in science, engineering and technology (SET). It was set up as one of the key recommendations of the Government's 2003 Strategy for Women in SET (pdf), which followed the SET Fair Report (pdf) in 2002.
The UKRC is led by a partnership including the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, the Open University, Sheffield Hallam University, Queen Mary University of London, with Bradford College as the lead partner.
