European Parliament President Antonio Tajani launches enquiry after sexist remarks by Polish MEP

European Parliament President Antonio Tajani has launched an enquiry after a sexist rant by Polish MEP Janusz Korwin-Mikke disrupted a parliamentary session. During a debate 1st March over the pay gap between women and men, the Polish MEP caused an uproar when he proclaimed that women deserve to earn less than men "because they are weaker, they are smaller, they are less intelligent; they must earn less, that's all." European Parliament rules ban language or behaviour that is defamatory, racist or xenophobic.

President Antonio Tajani will be a featured speaker at Women’s Forum Rome, taking place 26-28 June at the Villa Medici. Gathering more than 200 thought-leaders representing government and business – women and men – from Europe and from Mediterranean countries, Women’s Forum Rome seeks to “mobilise the energy of women” to secure peace and foster prosperity in Europe.
