Biography:

Maria Ramos is the Group Chief Executive of Absa Group and Africa, Barclays. She is a member of the Executive Committee of Barclays.
Prior to joining Absa in 2009, Ramos was Group Chief Executive of Transnet, South Africa’s state-owned freight transport company. She joined Transnet from National Treasury where she served as Director-General for seven years.
Ramos was named CNBC Africa Woman Leader of the Year in 2011.  She was ranked 7th in the global Fortune annual ranking of the 50 most powerful women in business in the same year. Ramos serves on the executive committee of the World Economic Forum’s International Business Council.
She has an MSc (Economics) from the University of London.
