Tatiana Mukanire is the National Coordinator of the Mouvement national des survivant.es violences sexuelles (National Movement of Survivors of Sexual Violence) in the DRC and a human rights and women's rights advocate. A victim of rape used as a weapon of war in her country in 2004, she turned her experiences into action. She says she has gone from being a victim to being a woman leader in the community. In 2017 she co-founded the National Movement of Survivors of Sexual Violence, after writing a letter to her rapist, a powerful text that has inspired many other survivors to break the silence. Tatiana Mukanire is also a member of SEMA, the global network of victims and survivors to end wartime sexual violence, an initiative of the Dr. Denis Mukwege Foundation.”
