On the occasion of the 2020 virtual Global Meeting, the Women’s Forum and ClimateSeed have joined forces to achieve meaningful climate action. This action is based on the recognition of the fundamental role of women in the fight against climate change. From global leadership to small communities in developing countries, women must be empowered and involved in protecting our planet if humanity wants to succeed in tackling the most important challenge of our time.
REDD+ Project India
This project aims to halt and reverse the loss of community forests by providing support and financial incentives to conserve existing forests and regenerate degraded forests. The project area is a global biodiversity hotspot, providing habitat to many endangered species. Additionally, the project delivers long-term strategies to address extreme poverty faced by rural families and is involved in the establishment of women-run microfinance institutions. The project is manufacturing and installing fuel-efficient cookstoves and plants to subsidize the majority of the 5,000 households in the project area. As a result, fuelwood consumption and indoor smoke pollution will be reduced improving forest and family health.

Cookstoves Project in Peru
The project is implemented in households of the poorest families in the country and provides families with clean cookstoves that require less wood. The new stove combusts wood more efficiently and has a chimney so smoke is naturally drawn out of the house. With less smoke inside the house, children are now healthier. On average, this stove burns 1.9 tonnes of wood less per family per year. Less wood also means families save money buying fuel or time gathering it, while conserving local forests. The program for diffusion of improved cookstoves has certified emission reduction for 1,745,491 tCO2e.
